Shimba Hills National Reserve

Shimba Hills National Reserve, located in Kwale County just 33 km from Mombasa, is a coastal gem offering a refreshing blend of wildlife, lush forests, and scenic landscapes. Covering 300 km², the reserve is known for its rolling hills, cool climate, and sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. Shimba Hills is home to the endangered sable antelope, found nowhere else in Kenya, as well as elephants, giraffes, buffalo, leopards, serval cats, and over 230 bird species. The reserve’s unique mix of coastal rainforest and grassland supports rare plant species, including cycads and orchids. One of its highlights is the Sheldrick Falls, a 25-meter waterfall nestled deep in the forest, which can be reached via a guided nature walk.
