Meru National Park

Meru National Park is a lush, wild, and historically rich safari destination in eastern Kenya, famed for its unspoiled beauty and conservation legacy. Spanning 870 km², it offers a diverse landscape of rolling savannahs, swamps, rivers, and dense bushland, framed by the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya in the distance.The park gained international fame as the home of Elsa the lioness, made famous by Joy and George Adamson’s book and film Born Free. Visitors can explore the Elsa Memorial and Joy Adamson’s campsite as part of the park’s heritage.Meru boasts impressive wildlife diversity, including the Big Five, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, giraffes, and over 400 bird species. The park also has a special rhino sanctuary that protects both black and white rhinos, offering an excellent chance to see these endangered animals up close.Its low visitor numbers make it a peaceful and intimate safari experience, while its network of rivers including the Tana and Rojewero provide stunning backdrops for game drives. Meru is often combined with Kora National Park for an extended wilderness adventure.
