Kora National Park lies in Kenya’s Eastern Province, bordering the mighty Tana River to the north. Known for its vast wilderness and rugged landscapes, the park covers over 1,700 square kilometers of pristine bushland, rocky hills, and open savannah.Kora is famously linked to George Adamson, the legendary conservationist celebrated in Born Free, who lived and worked here reintroducing lions into the wild until his passing in 1989. Today, his camp remains a point of historical interest for visitors. The park’s terrain is dotted with dramatic inselbergs (isolated rocky hills) such as Kora Rock, Mwitamvisi, and Grandfather Rock, offering panoramic views for adventurous hikers. Wildlife sightings include elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, and a variety of antelope species, along with over 300 bird species. The Tana River adds to the park’s beauty, creating lush riverine forests and providing a habitat for crocodiles and hippos. Remote and less visited than other parks, Kora offers an authentic, off-the-beaten-path safari experience for those seeking solitude and raw nature.
