Chyulu Hills National Park is one of Kenya’s most beautiful yet least explored wilderness areas. Nicknamed “The Green Hills of Africa” by Ernest Hemingway, the park is a pristine blend of rolling green volcanic hills, endless grasslands, lava flows, and crystal-clear springs. The Chyulu Hills, formed about 500 years ago, are among the world’s youngest mountain ranges. The park’s volcanic origins have created remarkable features such as Leviathan Cave one of the longest lava tubes in the world and the scenic Shetani lava flows. The hills are a vital water catchment area, feeding the Tsavo and Amboseli ecosystems. Wildlife here includes elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, leopards, bushbucks, and various antelope species. Birdlife is abundant, with over 300 recorded species. Unlike more crowded parks, Chyulu offers a serene safari experience, often combined with visits to Amboseli or Tsavo West.
