This 7-day, 6-night private safari takes you on a journey through Kenya’s most celebrated wildlife destinations the rugged Samburu Game Reserve, the flamingo filled Lake Nakuru National Park, and the legendary Masai Mara. Beginning and ending in Nairobi, this road safari offers a perfect balance of diverse landscapes, rare wildlife, and cultural encounters. From Samburu’s unique northern species to Nakuru’s rhinos and the predator-rich plains of the Mara, each day brings new discoveries. Travel in a comfortable 4×4 safari van or upgrade to a Land Cruiser, with accommodation options tailored to your budget and season. This safari is ideal for year-round travel, delivering unforgettable game drives and extraordinary moments in Kenya’s top safari circuits.
Depart Nairobi in the morning and travel north through Kenya’s lush central highlands, passing Mount Kenya and the equator line. Arrive at Samburu Game Reserve in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy your first game drive in this semi-arid reserve, famous for its rare northern species including the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. Dinner and overnight at your Samburu lodge or tented camp.
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu
Spend the entire day exploring Samburu’s rugged landscapes and rich wildlife along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Elephants are often seen here in large numbers, along with lions, leopards, and crocodiles basking on the riverbanks. You can also opt for a cultural visit to a Samburu village for a glimpse into their traditional lifestyle. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or camp.
Day 3: Samburu → Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, leave Samburu and journey south through the equator line toward Lake Nakuru. Arrive for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park. Known for its rhino sanctuary, Rothschild giraffes, seasonal flamingos, and occasional leopard sightings, Lake Nakuru offers excellent photography opportunities. Dinner and overnight at a lodge near or inside the park.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru → Masai Mara National Reserve
Enjoy breakfast and depart for the Masai Mara, Kenya’s most famous safari destination. Arrive in time for lunch, then set off for an afternoon game drive across the rolling savannahs. The Mara is home to elephants, wildebeests, zebras, and big cats, making your first evening game drive an exciting introduction. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or tented camp.
Day 5: Full Day in Masai Mara
Spend a full day on safari in the Masai Mara, with morning and afternoon game drives or a full-day exploration with picnic lunch. Witness lions on the hunt, cheetahs sprinting across the plains, and massive buffalo herds. Between July and October, experience the Great Migration, one of nature’s greatest spectacles. Optional activities include a sunrise hot air balloon safari or a Maasai village visit. Dinner and overnight in the Mara.
Day 6: Another Full Day in Masai Mara
Explore more of the Mara’s diverse habitats on another day of game drives. This is the perfect opportunity to spot elusive wildlife such as leopards or to simply relax and soak in the atmosphere of the African wilderness. Dinner and overnight at your Mara lodge or camp.
Day 7: Masai Mara → Nairobi
Begin with an early morning game drive before breakfast. After checking out, drive back to Nairobi with scenic views of the Great Rift Valley along the way. Arrive in the afternoon and transfer to your hotel or the airport for your onward journey. End of safari.
