Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protects Africa’s second-highest mountain, Mount Kenya (5,199 m). Located in central Kenya, about 175 km north of Nairobi, the park is a spectacular wilderness area offering dramatic scenery, unique wildlife, and world-class trekking.The mountain’s peaks Batian, Nelion, and Lenana are surrounded by glaciers, alpine meadows, and dense montane forests. The lower slopes are cloaked in bamboo and tropical forest, while higher altitudes reveal rare afro-alpine plants found nowhere else on Earth.Wildlife includes elephants, buffalo, hyenas, giant forest hogs, and an array of primates and birds, including the endangered lammergeier vulture.
